Be thankful you’re reading this now. In the United States, gas prices are low, the stock market has recovered, and there are more freakishly incredible sports coupes on sale than when the Mitsubishi 3000GT tore up the scene in the mid-1990s. Even in a year of record recalls, times are good. To witness, we’ve picked out some worthy automotive-sales highlights from the past year, some of which are keeping us puzzled into 2015. Car Sales Are the Best in Eight Years The last time the U.S. car market cracked 16.5 million in annual light-vehicle sales was 2006. Eight years later, the…

For the past few years, Audi’s presence at the Consumer Electronics Show has seemed like the movie Groundhog Day—a story stuck on repeat. Oh sure, there were some cool distractions like the 2016 TT’s fully digital gauge cluster, laser headlights, and an in-car tablet computer, but the recurring storyline is dominated by autonomous driving technologies. Audi is far from a skipping record, however, since every year it has improved or enhanced its so-called “Piloted Driving” autonomous efforts, and this year it really upped the ante. As usual, Audi arrived in style at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last week. The big wigs at Audi presented the new Q3, a model that we're thrilled to know will be arriving on U.S. soil soon. It will be the new baby of the "Q" series, competing with the likes of fellow luxury mini-crossovers such as the BMW X1, the Mercedes-Benz GLA class, and the Lexus NX. The newly designed Q7 also made a dramatic entrance in a "magic box", which apparently is light enough to have been delivered by helicopter - or at least that's the story they would like us to believe. Late fall is a time for reflective glances, and Frank Sinatra’s rendition of “It Was a Very Good Year” comes to mind. Ever cool, never sentimental, Sinatra reminisces on “vintage” moments from the wry perspective of the later years in life. Could the Chairman be singing the theme song for the Audi TT? Renderings of new compact crossovers have recently hit the web and they are showing us how the upcoming Audi Q1, Mercedes-Benz GLC and GLC Coupe will look like. The smallest premium crossover on the market, the Audi Q1, is currently in development and it is believed to be inspired by the Crosslane Coupe. The model in question will probably get a 3-door body style but don’t act too surprised if the five-door will be the only one available. The Q2 name is currently held by the Alfa Romeo brand and even though Audi tried to obtain it, they will have to settle with the Q1 designation for their upcoming compact crossover. Audi’s beef with the denomination is the resemblance to the A1 minicar, which is based on Volkswagen’s Polo platform and is a smaller car than the upcoming SUV.
