The next generation of the Audi A4 should theoretically be just around the corner and the first rendering with the new model has popped onto the web. One of the most awaited family sedans out there, the Audi A4, is believed to have started its development for a new generation. This makes more logic if we think that its two main rivals, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, are already offering new generations of the C-Class and 3-Series. Rumor has it that the next-gen Audi A4 will be riding on the MLB Evo platform which has been previewed on the Sport Quattro Concept and it should use a combination of…

Audi has a surprise in store for the 2014 Los Angeles auto show and is teasing us with a peek at it. The darkened image above shows an unnamed concept car that we believe previews the brand’s upcoming A9 flagship. As we’ve speculated, and the photo seems to back up, the A9 is shaping up to be a large luxury hatchback—think of a plus-size A7, or of our A9 rendering, and you wouldn’t be far off—that would sit above the A8 in the lineup. But it also represents something more. The concept car, penned by Audi’s new head of design Marc Lichte, will show off the company’s…

The thought of a driverless car hurtling itself around a track at 150 mph sounds like a bizarre racing disaster: What happened to the driver? But just before the DTM season finale at Hockenheim, Audi is making it happen, sending an autonomous RS7 sports sedan careening around the track with nary a human aboard. And you can watch the robotic hot laps right here. For a preview of the action, check out Audi’s test laps and background videos below. There’s nothing more eerie to a car enthusiast than an empty pile of high-performance metal clipping apexes and barreling down…

Interested in competing on some of Europe’s greatest tracks, but don’t have the scratch to field a race team of your own? Audi’s Sport TT Cup series will follow portions of the DTM circuit in 2015, providing a one-model, six-race program for up to 24 drivers. The series is built around spec front-wheel-drive TTs that have been made appropriately burly for competition. The sub-2500-pound coupes will run the corporate EA888 2.0-liter TFSI turbo four, in this case pushing out 310 horsepower through a standard S tronic six-speed dual-clutch—yes, automatic—transmission. • This Robotic Audi RS7 Could Beat You Around a Racetrack

    9 Oct 2014 | 3:53 pm
Earlier this year, we spoke with Audi R&D chief Ulrich Hackenberg about the prospects and requirements for autonomous cars. At the time, he told us that he had defined two situations that an autonomous car must be able to handle. One of them was getting a car from the left lane of a three-lane autobahn to a safe stop by itself—important if, say, the driver suffers a heart attack. The other one intrigued us: The car needs to be faster on a racetrack than Hackenberg himself. Nota bene: Hackenberg is a talented race driver. Audi may be closer to reaching the latter target than we thought.
